Jesse Got His Smile Back
Jesse received free dental services at the mobile dental unit which Neighborhood Clinic began hosting on a monthly basis in 2015. After being treated he said, “I’ve had this crack in my tooth for a while, it robbed me of my perfect smile. I wanted it fixed for so long, so bad, and these guys just gave it back.”
With funding from private grants making it possible to host the Medical Teams International mobile dental unit, Neighborhood Clinic has been able to touch even more lives. The mobile unit treats uninsured adults with unmet dental needs, including dental hygiene instruction, fillings, extractions, root canals and as in Jesse’s case, tooth repair. Through an agreement with local oral surgery and denture providers, they’re also able to help patients receive specialist services for free or at a significantly reduced cost. Many adults who do have health insurance do not have coverage for dental care – are our mouths not part of our bodies? We find this disparity untenable. We are thrilled to have added this service and look forward to continuing it as long as funding is available to keep it going!
Jesse said he’s happy to have accessed the service, because “I didn’t trust anybody with it and these guys did exactly what I wanted with it. Amazing service and job.” We’re so glad Jesse got his smile back!
